Crime Stoppers tip link man to taco-stand shooting.

On December 13, 2009, Mario Carbajal Plata was gunned down in broad daylight in front of his wife while working at his south Austin taco stand.   Police say a fingerprint led police to a suspect who was using an alias and a tip led police to the real identity and the whereabouts of the suspected gunman.  The suspect has a long list of aliases as well as criminal past.

Tip solves a 3 year old Austin bank robbery.

In July 2007, the Wells Fargo bank in the 5900 block of Airport Blvd. was robbed.  It wasn’t until December of 2009 that an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip finally brought the suspect to justice and led police to Daniel Palmer, who was arrested and charged.

Crime Stoppers tip solves the first homicide of 2010.

Nineteen year old Justin Jamal Mendez was shot to death on January 6, 2010 on Bandera Road near the intersection of MLK and Springdale Road.   A second man, Jonathan Lamont Stanchel was also shot.  An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip led police to David King who has been arrested and charged with the crime.



You've Got Jail! Thanks to Crime Stoppers tips!

• Recently, two UT students, John Goosey and Stacey Barnett, both from Houston, were found shot to death in their west campus apartment.  A Crime Stoppers text tip led police to suspect James Richard “Ricky” Thompson, who has been arrested and charged with 2 counts of capital murder.

• Three months after Nikolas Evans died from injuries suffered from an attack on 6th street, police had no leads. Then a crime Stoppers anonymous tip led police to Eric Skeeter, 28 who was arrested and charged with the crime.  Crime Stoppers featured this crime on KVUE’s Crime of the Week and put up a billboard hoping for help solving this murder. The arrest came after an anonymous tipster called Crime Stoppers and gave the police valuable information.
