Crime of the Week

Smash and Grab Daylight Robbers.  Around 10:30 am Friday, Feb 19th, a man walked through the door at Russell Korman Jeweler at 38th and North Lamar and started bashing glass cases with a crowbar.  A second man entered the store with a hammer and began smashing glass cases as well.  A third man entered with a bag and held the door open with his foot.  In the end the three men got away with 14 Tag Heuer watches and 9 Brieitling watches ranging from $2,000 - $25,000 each.  The first man has been described as a light –skinned black man, about 5”7 around 245 lbs with a heavy build.  The second man is Hispanic, 5”10, between 140-200 lbs.   The men fled in a stolen Suburban and abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away.  If you have any information please contact Crime Stoppers.

Cops look for robber with expensive tastes.  The Cristiani’s Jewelers in Lakeway was robbed on Monday, Feb 1.  About 2:20 p.m. a suspect described as a black male wearing a tan jacket, blue jeans, athletic shoes and a white Ralph Lauren cap (see photo) grabbed a Rolex watch from an employee’s hand and fled the area in a black 2002 Mercedes CL600.   The same suspect also went to Reeds Jewelry Store at Lakeline Mall and Ben Bridges Jewelers at the Domain, but did not attempt to steal any merchandise at that time. Help police stop this thief. If you can identify the suspect or have any information, please submit your tip by phone, text or web.

 

Police suspect San Antonio armed bank robbery may be in Austin.
Police are looking for a suspect who has robbed at least 2 banks at gunpoint in San Antonio.  The Bank of America and Sterling Bank were both robbed in January by the same suspect (see photo).  Police received information that the suspect not only is from Austin but has returned here.  If you recognize this man or have any information please help stop this dangerous criminal.

Police need your help in solving the first murder of 2010.  On January 6th, 19 year old Justin Jamal Mendez was found dead in the passenger seat of a car in the 4600 block of Bandera Road near Springdale Road and East MLK, Blvd.  The car was described as a 4 door sedan.
**** UPDATE:  SOLVED!  An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip led police to arrest suspect!

Thieves target Targets.  Since April of 2009, four Target stores have been burglarized.  Thieves break in by throwing cinder blocks through front glass doors and steal high dollar electronic items such as video game systems, ipods, and mobile phones.  The last location hit was the Target at Southpark Meadows on 11/19/2009. The suspect has been described as a white male, thin, wearing a black stocking cap to cover his face in the surveillance cameras.  Target is offering an addition cash reward for information on this crime that leads to an arrest.
